TikTok Launches 'Nearby Feed': A New Feature for Local Content Personalization
TikTok introduces 'Nearby Feed', a new feature allowing users to discover local content based on their location, aiming to boost local economies and creators.
TikTok users in Western Europe can now take advantage of a new feature called 'Nearby Feed'. This feature allows users to discover local attractions such as restaurants, as well as other interesting places to visit in their vicinity.
Local Experiences on TikTok The Nearby Feed feature enables users to see what's happening around them. It's not just about local creators, but also about places that are popular within the community.
TikTok will display content relevant to the user's location. Access to this feature is available from the main TikTok screen.
The tab that appears reflects the user's nearby location. The content displayed is tailored to the user's interests and engagement.
For creators, this means their recordings will be shown in the city/region where they were published or where location was indicated. If a user wants to see content from a different location, they can simply change their location.
TikTok content will not appear in the 'Nearby' section if the user is under 18, has a private account or has set their post privacy to 'Friends' or 'Only You'. Not all content qualifies for the 'Nearby' section.
For instance, content doesn't qualify if it was published by a person under 18, from a private account, set to 'Friends' or 'Only You', or published more than 90 days ago. The Nearby Feed feature aims to support local economies by increasing the visibility of small businesses, cultural institutions and local creators.
A growing number of users are using TikTok like a search engine. According to a 2023 Oxford Economics study, 46% of TikTok users in the UK visited a local store, restaurant or tourist attraction they saw on the platform.
Your Location, Your Choice Sharing location is voluntary. The service is only available to users over 18.
The option only works while using TikTok. ## PS Joanna Nowak, Sebastian Puchała: On TikTok, perfection doesn't win - authenticity does [PODCAST]
