Kena: Scars of Cosmora has been announced — this is a continuation of the adventures of Kena: Bridge of Spirits. The main feature of the first part was that the entire game, especially the cutscenes and animations, looked like a Disney or Pixar cartoon. In the sequel, the main character named Kena has grown up and will continue to help spirits find peace. However, the first part also featured adorable little black fluffballs that stole the spotlight, while in Scars of Cosmora, judging by the trailer, the developers decided to focus more on the combat system. As a result, there is a feeling that the sequel has lost all its charm and has become just another souls-like game, of which there are already quite a few. But the signature cartoon style is still intact. Kena: Scars of Cosmora is planned for release sometime this year on PC and PlayStation 5.
Remedy showcased a full gameplay trailer for CONTROL Resonant. The developers once again emphasized that the game does not feature an open world, but the locations will be quite spacious. Moreover, due to reality distortions, players will have to move in all dimensions — in the trailer, Dylan (the main character of the game) easily transitions from the floor to the ceiling, jumping on walls and back. Aberrant is Dylan's main weapon, which can take various forms: the video shows a hammer, blades, and a scythe, but there will be other types as well. Resonant is expected to release in 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series.
Crystal Dynamics was generous and presented two games in the Legacy of Kain universe. The first project was revealed during the broadcast, and it is a remaster of Legacy of Kain: Defiance — the last part of the Soul Reaver saga. Recall that in 2024, a collection of the first two remastered parts was released. In Defiance Remastered, the graphics will be updated, the camera improved, cut levels restored, and a full map of the area added. Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered is set to release on March 3 on PC, PlayStation, and both Switch consoles. The second project was presented after State of Play and is completely new — Legacy of Kain: Ascendance. This is a 2D pixel action-platformer in the style of classic Castlevania. The story will serve as a prequel to the original series, but details are still under wraps. Legacy of Kain: Ascendance is scheduled for release on March 31 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and both Switch consoles.
Koei Tecmo Games decided to reboot Dead or Alive 6, announcing a version with the subtitle Last Round. It will include all previously released content, an update for modern hardware, new costumes, and a photo mode. In the future, new fighters and even more costumes are planned for release. This unique reboot will launch on June 25 for PlayStation 5. However, a more intriguing announcement was a short teaser hinting at a new game in the Dead or Alive series, possibly even a numbered installment. No details are available, just outstanding forms.
Krafton, four years after announcing the start of development, showed the first trailer for Project Windless. This is an action RPG set in a dark fantasy world inspired by the series of novels "The Bird That Drinks Tears" by South Korean author Lee Yong-do. But the most interesting part is that you will play as a cool battle rooster. In the debut trailer, he effortlessly cuts through hordes of enemies and battles larger monsters. However, from the footage, it feels like this is not an action game in the style of Wukong, but a musou genre project: where most of the time you are just slicing through crowds of identical enemies. Let’s hope that Project Windless will offer other forms of entertainment as well. There is no release date for the game, and the platforms are PC and PlayStation 5.
A trailer for the John Wick game has been released, which features almost no gameplay. The project is being developed by Saber Interactive with support from Lionsgate, and the main character will be voiced by Keanu Reeves himself. The story is entirely original and will tell the tale set several years before the events of the first film. The developers assure that they will implement the signature style and unique elements of the franchise, including a dynamic combat system, stunning cinematography, and cinematic storytelling. All of this is aimed at creating the feeling that you are in a movie. It will be interesting to see how their combat system works, although on the other hand, we already have several good representatives of games with combat in tight spaces, such as the Batman Arkham series or SIFU. By the way, the game doesn’t even have an official title yet, so it’s too early to talk about a release date, and regarding platforms — PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series.
Successful Successes
Several games released this week received a warm reception from players. Nioh 3 on Steam reached a peak online of 88,000 players, which is a personal record for publisher Koei Tecmo among all their projects. The ratings stand at 79% positive reviews from 9,000 reviews. The game has chronic performance issues typical for the series, but the engaging dynamic gameplay overshadows these shortcomings. Sales of the new project from the creator of Binding of Isaac — Mewgenics, surpassed 500,000 copies in just 36 hours, instantly recouping development costs, as reported by co-creator Tyler Glaiel. The online player count on Steam reached 89,000 concurrent players, and nearly 92% of reviews from 13,000 are positive. Overall, it’s not surprising: Mewgenics combines the unique, rough, dirty, yet amusing visual style of Edmund McMillen with a diverse combat system featuring numerous combat abilities for cats.
On the other hand, REANIMAL had a rough start — this is a new cooperative horror adventure from the creators of the first two Little Nightmares games. The impression of the release was marred by the absence of a Friend’s Pass on PC: this allows you to invite a friend to play who does not own a copy of the game. Given that REANIMAL is cooperative, the initial reviews on Steam were negative due to this issue. Later, the developers added the promised Friend’s Pass, and reviews began to improve — now they stand at 70% positive from 2,000 reviews. The peak online player count, however, is modest — nearly 17,000. The pros highlight the signature oppressive atmosphere, while the cons point to a short duration and easy puzzles.
Hello Games released another content update for No Man’s Sky. In the Remnant update, players can customize Colossus-class vehicles, all to engage in garbage collection. Now on some planets, you can collect various scrap metal and radioactive barrels, load them into your truck, and send the trash for recycling to earn currency. Additionally, a gravity gun has been added to conveniently grab large objects, which can even be used to grab and throw some security bots. If you manage to participate in a timed expedition, you will receive "spider legs" for your vehicle. It will be interesting to see what the studio surprises us with next, but they have no intention of stopping yet.
Pleasant surprises from Blizzard for fans of Diablo II, specifically its remaster. Firstly, a new hero — the Warlock — has been added to Resurrected. He can not only summon but also turn demons to his side, use forbidden powers from the Abyss, and charge weapons with them. Along with the new hero, new items, zones, runes, and bosses will also be introduced. Secondly, Diablo II: Resurrected has become available on Steam, with full support for Steam Deck — a great gift for all classic fans.
